Why You Need a Dedicated Training Space for Your Warehouse

Your team should be undergoing training on a regular basis. Even seasoned team members who have been with you forever should go through regular training simply to refresh their memories or update them on new information. Modular offices are a great addition to your warehouse because they give you a dedicated training space to help ensure your team is always in the know.

What are the advantages to regular training? First, it can decrease your accident rate. Most accidents in the warehouse are preventable. Making sure employees are properly trained on safety processes can cut down on accident rates. Training them once isn’t enough, either; you need to continually train on safety to keep the information fresh in their minds. Secondly, training can help employees learn important new skills that they can put to work on the warehouse floor. That might involve training them on new software, automation systems, or even on teamwork and leadership. Training can also help break bad habits learned at other jobs and set the standard for how things should be done in your warehouse.

Training has a direct effect on your business and it’s all good. Make sure your team has the space they need so they can always be learning by providing a modular office for training. The best part about our modular offices is that they don’t have to do just one job; you can use them as a lunch room, locker room, office space and more. Let us show you how versatile they can be so you can find one that’s right for your warehouse today.

Re-Evaluate Your Floor Plan When Installing a Mezzanine Level

We’ve helped many companies install mezzanine levels in their warehouse. Our mezzanine systems are a great way to add more square footage to your warehouse without an expensive construction project or moving your operation. If you are installing a mezzanine to gain square footage, though, there is one that we recommend doing in order to maximize on the potential of your new warehouse space: re-evaluate your overall floorplan.

Many warehouses think that leaving their existing space as-is and simply continuing to pile onto the mezzanine is the best course of action. Instead, you should take time during the mezzanine installation to evaluate your floorplan as a whole. Getting stuck in a rut with your floor plan (“that goes there because it’s always gone there” mentality) can decrease your speed and start to bog down your operation. As your warehouse needs change, so should your floorplan.

So how should you evaluate your space and decide what should go where? The simplest model is to put the fastest selling items closest to your pick station and move back in order of demand. You may choose to move your assembly team to the mezzanine, or even move your office team up there and free up space on the warehouse floor.

The beauty of taking the time to evaluate your floorplan is that your mezzanine gives you so many new options! If you need help deciding which option is best or would like one of our experienced team members to lay out your warehouse for you, just give us a call. We’re happy to help you maximize the potential of your mezzanine space!

How Conveyor Systems Help You Manage Your Costs

We’ve discussed before on our blog that conveyor systems can help increase the efficiency in your wareh Insert/edit linkouse. They are a great way to automate some of the labor in your warehouse so you can allow your workers to focus on more skilled tasks. There are other benefits to conveyor systems as well, including benefits that directly impact your bottom line by helping you manage your costs. Here is how:

  • One investment should last for years. Aside from some maintenance and upkeep, most conveyor systems will last your warehouse for years to come. That means with your one-time investment, you’ll get years of work out of your machinery.
  • They are inexpensive to maintain. Of course, it will depend a bit on the kind of conveyor system that you install, but most conveyors are inexpensive to maintain. Daily maintenance can be done as regular start-up or shut-down work within your warehouse and replacement parts are plentiful and inexpensive.
  • Conveyor systems cut down on damaged merchandise. With less room for human error, conveyor systems are one of the safer ways to transport goods through your warehouse. Your loss from damages can see a significant decrease.

The DAK Equipment & Engineering team would love to help you install a conveyor system that’s right for your warehouse. If you’d like to learn more about managing your costs with the automation of a conveyor system, give us a call or contact us through our website today to speak with one of our project managers in the Chicago area and beyond.
