5 Pieces of Warehouse Equipment to Try in Your Warehouse This Year

How long has it been since you updated your warehouse equipment? If it’s been a while, you might want to consider bringing in some new equipment this year. New warehouse equipment can help you work faster, fulfill orders more efficiently, reduce your error rates and even lower your long-term costs. If you are looking for ways to improve your warehouse, here are five pieces of equipment you should try and why we think you’ll love using them in your warehouse.

Cantilever Racking

Cantilever racking is some of the most basic warehouse equipment out there, but it’s also one of the most underutilized and underappreciated. Cantilever racking is basically just two arms set into uprights. This storage solution is perfect if you need to store anything long, especially if there are a variety of sizes. Things like lumber, pipes, or similar items are perfectly stored on this kind of system. It’s pretty space efficient, too, so you can pack a lot of items into a small space. That can free up other storage space within your warehouse, optimizing your layout.

Conveyor Systems

Is your warehouse using a conveyor system yet? If it’s not, it could be the perfect way to start automating more of your warehouse. A conveyor can help you move product move across your warehouse without the use of human labor. That frees up your employees for tasks that require skilled labor. This can lower your expenses and make your entire operation more efficient. Does that seem like a lot to ask from a simple conveyor system? Try it for yourself. There are a huge number of conveyor system options so you can find one that’s suitable for your space and your budget.

Industrial Lockers

Industrial lockers are one of those deceptively simple warehouse items that actually go a long way to making your space better. Industrial lockers can be used to store equipment as well as give your team a safe place to store their personal belongings. Industrial lockers are an affordable investment that can clear up clutter, make your space safer, and even improve employee morale. Try this small improvement in your warehouse and see what it does for you.

Mezzanine Decks

Mezzanines can be a big investment in your warehouse space that pays off in a huge way. That’s because a mezzanine deck can essentially double the usable square footage of your warehouse without an expensive expansion, and all at a fraction of the price. A mezzanine can be used for sorting, picking, packing, storage, or even as an office space within your warehouse. We can help you find a custom option for your mezzanine level, utilizing your overhead space and giving your warehouse more room to grow.

Modular Offices

We love modular offices and you will, too. Modular offices are an ideal way to create a separate space within your warehouse, useful for clean rooms, quality assurance spaces, administrative offices, and more. They take less time to build than a traditional office space and can even be moved to another location if you decide to move. You can even save on your taxes! Modular offices can be customized to the size you need, with the features that you need, and in a variety of styles and colors making it just right for your warehouse space.

A Closer Look at the Warehouse Equipment We Used to Double Storage Capacity

We recently posted about a case study where our warehouse consultants helped a film production company nearly double their existing storage space for pallets, going from 7,900 spots to nearly 12,000. An important part of that project was the warehouse equipment that was used to accomplish the results. Let’s take a closer look at that equipment and see if it might be right for your warehouse, too.

Warehouse Equipment Used to Nearly Double Storage Capacity

Drive-In Pallet Racking

This pallet racking option is great for putting a lot of storage into a small space. It eliminates the aisles that are normally required between each pallet racking row. This means it’s best for storage large quantities of the same item. You’ll be able to drive a forklift into the pallet racking to retrieve items easily.

Is it right for your warehouse?

If you are running out of space in your warehouse, this is the highest density storage solution that you’ll find for pallets. But it will only work if you are storing a large number of the same item; that’s because you won’t have access to the items in the back unless you move items out of the way. So if you have a lot of the same thing on a pallet, it could be perfect.

Selective Pallet Racking

This is the most common pallet racking option out there. You’ll find it in almost every warehouse or distribution center around the world. We primarily used selective pallet racking in this project for SKUs with low inventory, especially if they were quicker moving items. The film production company needed a lot of their existing selective pallet racking repaired or replaced, and we helped them with both.

Is it right for your warehouse?

It would almost be more surprising if you weren’t already using selective pallet racking! It offers easy access to all items, so it’s good if you have a large number of different SKUs. It’s not the most space efficient option, though, but if you use other items like wire decking you can increase your capacity and create an efficient system.

Wire Decking

Wire decking is a great addition to your pallet racking. That’s because wire decking converts pallet racks from simply being great for pallets to shelving that’s great for cartons of all sizes. It’s also fire resistant and doesn’t restrict visibility, plus it can prevent damage to items if they fall off of the pallet iteslef. There are plenty of pros to this affordable addition.

Is it right for your warehouse?

We can almost guarantee that wire decking could be a useful addition to your warehouse. Unless you only work with pallets and will only ever work with pallets, you should have some wire decking on hand. It’s affordable, too, so you can quickly install wire decking where you need it without much hassle or expense.

What Else Does Your Warehouse Need?

These are just three warehouse equipment options that can be used to improve the efficiency of your warehouse! There are so many other options out there when it comes to finding the right warehouse equipment. It’s a matter of working with an experienced warehouse consultant who understands what equipment is out there, how it works, and how it can help improve the efficiency of your warehouse.
